About Us

Fraser Optics is a U.S. manufacturer of hand-held gyro-stabilized optical products. These high-powered, world-class optics have been in use by US and foreign militaries for more than 40 years. All products are backed by proven performance in military and law enforcement mission-critical operations and have been tested under extreme conditions.

Our state-of-the-art equipment is used worldwide to conduct long range surveillance on the ground, aboard ships, and from airborne platforms. It is used primarily to detect personnel and vehicle movement, as well as to aid in the identification of targets of interest at long ranges. Manufactured to MILSPEC standards, all of our products are proudly made in the USA at our ISO 9001:2008 standard facility in Trevose, Pennsylvania.

About gyro-stabilization

Gyro-stabilization is based on the principle of conservation of angular momentum. The gyro consists of a motor and a flywheel which, when spinning at full speed, resists changes to its orientation due to the angular momentum of the flywheel. When the unit shakes in one direction, the gyro moves in the opposite direction. Through manipulation of the prisms, gyro-stabilization provides a pure image. The small amount of movement when holding a binocular, called “jitter,” is magnified by the optics, degrading the image. In a gyro-stabilized binocular the prisms are mounted on a platform (gimbal) that can swivel independently of the rest of the binocular. A small motor driven gyroscope sits on the platform manipulating the prisms to stabilize the image and retain clarity.

Products made by Fraser Optics incorporate our STEDI-EYE® Technology, which removes up to 98% of image motion caused by hand tremor and platform vibration. This is essential for use in fast moving situations, or for use in any moving vessel, platform or vehicle.
